Prom eligibility has changed for this year’s prom. The change was put in place by the deans and administration.
“So we as an administrative staff looked at some other school districts, kind of saw what some other schools were doing, in addition to Bellevue East just down the road, and we kind of sat down and thought to ourselves, we need to have some form of expectations that meet, kind of our T-Bird way, that initiative, accountability and integrity,” dean Rob Klug said.
Several changes have been made to follow the T-Bird way, including various rules about attendance, where if you have missed more than 12 days during second semester prior to prom you will be unable to attend.
“They’re a pretty good standard,” junior Eliaz Lopez said. “Just because it’s like there’s certain things you have to require…So I think they’re, they’re a good change.”
With other changes excluding those who have over $100 in fees, or have received disciplinary action resulting in suspension, the goal with the new changes isn’t to block people from attending.
“We’re not trying to eliminate anyone by any stretch of the imagination,” Klug said. “We just want to have some basic requirements, just like anybody would be trying out for a team or a club or an activity, that you have to meet those expectations. We want to have kind of those same level of baseline expectations for our entire student body.”
Prom is April 18 at the Beardmore Events Center in Bellevue.
