The grand opening of the new auditorium will be Feb. 5 at 6 p.m with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by a concert at 7 p.m. To celebrate the occasion there will be collaborative performances by the Bellevue West band, choir, past alumni from each decade that will each sing a song, as well as a performance from the upcoming school musical “The Sound of Music.”
Principal Kevin Rohlfs said that his hope for this grand opening was to do something special and to bring people back.
“I thought it was important to not just recognize and allow those current students that opening performance, but also to reflect back on all the decades that have been here before,” Rohlfs said.
Despite the number of performances to get through, choir director AJ Reimer’s plan for the duration of the concert is 90 minutes. He plans to achieve this by taking turns between a group performance and a solo performance from one of the alumni. Reimer said his hope regardless of how the concert goes is that everyone realizes the bigger purpose.
“I hope everybody walks off the stage proud of what they did,” Reimer said. “But more importantly, I hope everyone is able to see this brand new space that we’re going to have for the next 50 years and be appreciative of it.”
Reimer said he is excited for the talent at Bellevue West to be showcased and for the performers to get that opportunity.
“I think society does an excellent job of trumpeting our five star athletes and trumpeting our people who make the most money,” Reimer said. “I think our society does a bad job of showing off our reporters who are excellent at what they do and our musicians who are excellent at what they do.”
Genres covered in the concert will include classical, contemporary, musical theater, traditional, and gospel.
“There’ll be some really high quality, entertaining pieces,” Reimer said.
Tickets for the concert are $5 and can be purchased at Booktix.
