Boy’s Basketball Recap: Thunderbirds take down Omaha North Vikings, 76-48.

What happened: On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Bellevue West varsity boys basketball team defeated Omaha North, 76-48. West improved to 18-1 while North fell to 7-8.

By the numbers: Throughout the game, there were more than 40 fouls contributing to a slower paced game. Four players scored double digits in points for West, one of them being sophomore Chucky Hepburn. Hepburn scored the most for West with 24 points, and senior Malachi O’Neal led North with 16. Bellevue West took control early and led at halftime 39-26. In the last half, they ran ahead of North with an end lead of 28 points.

Did you see that?: Chucky scored a basket for West, despite tripping and flinging the ball up to the basket. Later in the game, junior Trey Hepburn got the ball back for West by saving it from going out of bounds after a North player lost it. Trey ran and assisted it to junior Louis Fidler, who earned West another basket.

Next up: The Thunderbirds’ next is home game is thursday, Jan. 31 against the Lincoln Southwest Silverhawks at 7:15 p.m.
