Volleyball wins in straight sets against Omaha Benson

What happened: On Tuesday, Oct. 9 the Bellevue West Varsity volleyball team won a home conference game against Omaha Benson in straight sets (25-13, 25-12, 25-7). The victory improved the Thunderbirds to 15-11, while the Benson Bunnies fell to 6-13.

Did you see that?: Tim Anderson, Senior Team Support Representatives and Sponsorship Coordinator of Sideout, spoke to the crowd before the game and encouraged people to donate to breast cancer research.

By the numbers: West had a total of 42 kills and 13 service aces. Junior Brittney Sheibal had 21 of the teams 45 digs throughout the night. She also led the team in aces with 5 of the 13. Junior Jacki Apel and freshman Kealy Kiviniemi were strong at the net, with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Senior setter Parker Lauterbach had 35 of the teams 39 assists.

Next up: West’s next game is Senior Night, where they will take on the 5-21 Bellevue East Chieftains at home on Wednesday, October 17th at 6 p.m.
