The Bellevue West marching band will hold a mattress fundraiser on Sept. 6 by turning the commons into a mattress showroom.
“There’s probably going to be anywhere between 25 and 30 different types of mattresses in different sizes and different price points,” marching band director Jason Pentico said.
This fundraiser is not a new idea, as the company that runs it, Custom Fundraising Solutions, was founded in 2005.
“It’s being basically oversaw and distributed by a fundraising company that specifically does this as their only form of fundraising, which is selling mattresses,” Pentico said.
Like many other extracurriculars, members of the marching band must pay for any traveling and uniform expenses which adds up to $530.
“There’s a fee that’s involved when being a participant in the marching band,” Pentico said. “So this helps with offsetting their fees,” Pentico said.
The fundraiser will take place in the Bellevue West commons on Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“It would be great for people to come out and help out our kids and support them in their endeavors to raise money towards their activity costs,” Pentico said.
According to band director Marques Eckhoff, the marching band consists of 128 students this year.
“We’re probably one of the largest curricular and extracurricular activities in the school,” Pentico said. “We’ve had a long tradition of success, and I think we do a lot of really great things for our students.”
During the sale the marching band has an eight hour rehearsal. Junior Aiden Monro said they work hard to sound the best they can and are always trying to improve.
”If you like supporting the future generations, definitely support the marching band,” Monro said.
