What happened: Omaha Central takes Bellevue West in a close 29-28 game. The T-Birds lost their first game of the season at their home stadium, Faiman Field. The T-Birds led the Eagles 28-26 with three minutes to go in the fourth quarter. With less than a minute to go, Central’s kicker Robin Vargas Pablo kicked the winning field goal, bringing the score to 29-28.
Those who showed up: Attendance for the T-Birds season opener was about 1,000 people. The T-Bird student section was loud and proud, while the Eagles students section was sparse and quiet. Bellevue West student section leaders led the crowd with T-Bird pride.
