2024 is an election year, which means over 8 million citizens are eligible to vote for the first time. Not only are many people now old enough, but the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled on Oct. 16 that felons who have completed their sentences may now register to vote.
The deadline to register to vote in person is Oct. 25.
You are eligible to vote under a few conditions: you have to be a Nebraska resident, a US citizen, and of age.
For seniors, although you do have to be 18 to cast a ballot, in Nebraska you can pre-register at 17 as long as you will turn 18 by Election Day, Nov. 5.
For in-person registration, just visit your election county office and fill out the documents there. The election commission office for Douglas County is located at 12220 W Center Rd and the election commission office for Sarpy County is located at 1102 E. 1st Street, Ste #1 in Papillion.
If you think you are already registered, you can check online at the Nebraska Voter Information Lookup website.
Early voting opened up Monday, Oct. 7, which means voters can cast a ballot from now until Nov. 5. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day; if a voter is in line by 8 p.m. on Election Day, you can vote, so make sure to stay in line.
