For years now, the football East versus West game is always highly anticipated among students, staff, and parents. However, due to the construction of the new auditorium, parking in front of the school is limited.
Because of the construction and high traffic, activities director Jon Mauro said the effects of the parking require more planning.
“I expect more people parking north and south of the school, probably using the lot on the west side,” Mauro said.
Mauro said fans should plan ahead of time for walking from where they find parking to the stadium, especially because of where the visitor team buses will need to park at West.
“My main concern, a little bit more than anything, it’s about buses getting in and out, dropping kids off, picking kids up, and how to get those big vehicles in a place that they’re not in the middle of a bunch of traffic,” Mauro said.
Despite the construction, fans will use the usual entrance for the East versus West game.
“We’ll still have our same main entrance, which is kind of the south end of the stadium,” Mauro said. “We will probably open an entrance, which we’ve done before for East/West games or big crowds on the north side of the stadium.”
Mauro said changing the location of the game was never discussed, as both high schools take turns hosting.
“It’s a lot of revenue for the school and the athletic department and a lot of pride for each school to be able to host it,” Mauro said. “I don’t think losing 100 parking spaces is a reason to move the game,” Mauro said.
