Find the best peppermint candy

Gnally Boukar, Co-Editor-in-Chief

Peppermint has been slowly entering grocery stores in all different forms of sugary mediums replacing the overhyped season of pumpkin spice and fall. And as the peppermint connoisseur I am, almost everything at the store that says peppermint will, one way or another, find itself in my basket. Here is a ranking of my favorites, least to best, all available at any big box store.

  1. Christmas Nougat

At the bottom of the list is Christmas nougat. There’s so many things I hate about the peppermint blob of grainy mash. I could see this coming in handy if you forget to brush your teeth, the nougat strips the plaque off of your teeth while the overpowering taste of peppermint rids you of your bad breath.

  1. Peppermint Ice Cubes

I have nothing of significance to say about peppermint Ice Cubes, they taste like mint gum. Nothing distinguishable from brushing your teeth.

  1. Lindor Peppermint Cookie

I was excited for the chance at a peppermint cookie truffle, but unfortunately these did nothing but disappoint. The peppermint cookie filling tastes like eating sugar crystals, and milk chocolate did not balance the overpowering sweetness as well as a dark chocolate would.

  1. Candy Cane Hershey Kisses

Candy Cane Kisses are by far my favorite strain of Hershey because they carry the nostalgia of Christmastime. The peppermint crunch and familiar shape place it at #4.

  1. Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Peppermint Bark

Each chocolate square is the perfect balance of sweet white chocolate and bittersweet dark chocolate. While the peppermint is present, the texture of it makes it blend with the taste of dark chocolate.

  1. Dove Dark Chocolate Peppermint Bark

While the quality of the chocolate is below Ghiradelli, Dove takes a pro-peppermint approach by adding candy cane to their chocolate. The addition of candy cane does all the different and adds texture to the rich background of chocolate.

  1. Lindor White Peppermint

These are the epitome of peppermint candy. The white chocolate peppermint shell enrobs a smooth minty ganache that encapsulates the spirit of the holidays. They are 100% worth every penny.

As the weather gets colder the comforting taste of peppermint gives me at least one reason to enjoy the holidays. Just make sure to choose the right form of peppermint to enjoy.
