Sophomore Senate and Student Council are working together to host the annual Mr. Bellevue West pageant. The event will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Mr. Bellevue West is a pageant style competition where senior boys show off their talents and school spirit in an effort to be crowned the title of Mr. Bellevue West.

Student Council sponsor Alexandra Thiessen finds that the show is a humorous way to celebrate this year’s senior class.

“It really does showcase the senior class,” Thiessen said. “We have the senior boys that are the finalists that are in the running for Mr. Bellevue West and then senior girls who are the emcees that host the show and plan the whole show.”

Participants had to fill out applications, with information including their GPA, extracurriculars, and why they wanted to be Mr. Bellevue West. Finalists were then selected based on blind judging by teachers and administrators who used a rubric.

“We asked them other questions that are humorous to kind of get a gauge of their personality,” Thiessen said. “We asked them this year ‘if you could be any Disney princess, who would you be and why?’ and those answers were hilarious.”

The pageant has multiple events within it that are meant to show off the personalities of the participants.

“It’s just a great way to see the talent and personalities of all the people that make Bellevue West great,” Thiessen said.

The competition is open to all students and will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Bellevue West auditorium. Admission is $5 at the door and all proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
